'Treescape' - near Castleton, Derbyshire

'Treescape' was taken near to Eldon Hill, Castleton, Derbyshire. This stark, striking landscape is ancient and elemental and the trees surrounding the early lead mines and limestone quarries are a fundamental part of the geography. The name Eldon Hill (earlier known as 'Elvedon' Hill) derives from the local mythology that the potholes and caves that punctuate this landscape were home to the elves and there were 'elves on the hill'.
