'Windgather' - Near Taxal, Whaley Bridge, Kettleshulme and Goyt Valley
Windgather rocks is a dramatic, jutting gritstone crag overlooking the village of Kettleshulme and a landscape of seventeenth and eighteen century field-walls and scattered farms on the Derbyshire/Cheshire border. Exposed to the elements and the prevailing westerly wind that lends the crag its elemental name, it is a spectacular location and the panorama from the crest of the rocks is extensive; Westwards you can see the whole of Manchester and Cheshire and eastwards you look to the Peak District. Formed from Chatsworth Grits, the fascinating geological rock formations are designated as a RIGS (Regionally Important Geological Site).
